Regional Competitions Staged during the Expo 

Held every two years, the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competitions are an exciting event, which showcases apprentices, trainees and students across metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia. The competitions span individual skill areas, including VET in Schools, and are aligned to national workforce needs. 

The 2026 Regional Competitions will feed directly into the 2027 WorldSkills Australia National Championships in Adelaide, where Australia’s top performers will compete for the chance to represent the nation internationally.

Meet the WA Skillaroos

      

The clock is counting down to the biggest skills competition on the planet, when over 1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries and regions will arrive in Shanghai to compete in across 64 skill categories from 22–27 September 2026.

Team Australia, known as The Skillaroos, will be at the event, with a 37-strong team of talent and energy pitting their skills against the rest of the world in competition.

Four young superstars from Western Australia will be in the green and gold to put their skills to the ultimate test against their peers.

• Daniel Peto, who trained at North Metropolitan TAFE, will represent Australia in Cyber Security.
• Jason Seiler, who completed his apprenticeship at the Trade Academy WA, will compete in the Bricklaying competition – a real test of stamina and strength.
• Lachlan Basc trained at North Metropolitan TAFE, and will be stretching his creative talents creating 3D Digital Game Art.
• Larni Roberts, a hairdresser who trained at South Metropolitan TAFE, will be hoping to style her way to success in the Hairdressing competition.

The four WA Skillaroos will be supported by training experts from WA, including Ryan Goggin (3D Digital Game Art) and Alexis Read (Hairdressing), with experts Johnese Mullen (Restaurant Service) and Chief Expert Brendan Hibbert (Graphic Design) mentoring other Skillaroos in competition.
